Northwest Records Bureau: privacy notice for the mobile application

Northwest Records Bureau is the pocket companion to the desk research and records compilation that NETWORK NORTHWEST LIMITED carries out for its clients, giving a researcher somewhere to set down an enquiry, list the sources already worked through, and keep the running entries a compilation is built from. Set out below, in the ordered form the bureau files everything else in, is the way the application treats the material you put into it.

The application

Northwest Records Bureau runs on an Android handset or tablet and behaves as a notebook with a fixed shape: a question at the head of a job, the sources consulted beneath it, and the findings entered against each one as the reading proceeds.

Reach of this notice

What follows describes the application by itself. Enquiries emailed to the bureau, and visits to the pages of the bureau website, are the subject of the separate privacy notice published on the main site.

Where entries are kept

Every note, source reference and compilation entry you create is written to the application’s own storage area, by way of the space the Android platform allots to an installed application on the device it was installed on. The application reads those entries back from that same area whenever you open it again.

Platform component

Distribution runs over Google Play, and Google Play Services sits inside the application as the standard Android layer that handles its installation, hands a device the later versions as they are published, and satisfies the platform that the copy in use is the one the bureau released.

Lettering

The interface is set in typefaces from Google Fonts. Those font files travel with the application inside its own package, and every screen draws its lettering out of there, so the type is on the handset from the moment installation finishes.

Your hand on the record

The entries remain yours to work on. Any one of them opens for amendment from the list it appears in, a clear-all control kept on the settings screen empties the whole store in one step, and uninstalling from the Android settings retires that store along with the application.
